Expert Eats is combining cooking, nutrition and taste to combat poor mental health and improve wellbeing.

In Australia, just under 50% of people experience a mental health issue throughout their lifetime, with young people being one most at risk, with over 75% of mental health issues occuring before the age of 25 years.

Mental health is a complex issue that is affected by many factors, some of which we cannot change. One thing we can always improve is our eating patterns, and every small change counts.

Poor mental health is linked to a highly processed diet

Frightening statistics about mental health and our poor nutritional intake in Australia show that our eating patterns are contributing to our nation’s declining mental health. Australians are eating a highly processed diet, with over 47% of their energy intake coming  from ultra processed food and only 1 in 7 people are eating enough vegetables to meet their nutritional needs. The challenges created by the global pandemic have increased stress, both economical and emotional, and sadly, these statistics are bound to get worse.

The scientific evidence confirms that there is a strong connection between mental and physical health, gut health and nutrition.  Healthy eating patterns, that include a wide variety of plant based foods, is key to combating health conditions related to chronic inflammation, poor mental health and chronic disease.
